Completed in 1986, Mother Mary Ward elementary school was built to accommodate overflow students from the nearby St. Anthony's Elementary School[11]. In its first year of operation grades ranged from JK to 6, the second year JK to 7 and finally JK to 8. The first graduatating class of grade 8 students departed in 1988.
The school is a two storey structure that sits on 2.06 hectares of land. The school was designed in a modular fashion to allow for quick construction and subsequent destruction[12]. The school does not have an elevator or barrier-free washroom facilities and therefore does not meet the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act of 2005[13]
